The cost of food is a big expense in many households. If you feel that you are spending too much on groceries, you are not the only one. Many shoppers come home from the supermarket feeling like they’ve spent too much money for the items they bought. If you’re not careful a grocery bill can really eat into your budget. Grocery coupons can help offset some of your costs and save you money on your food expenses. The first step is to make a list of the items you purchase on a regular basis that you cannot do without under any circumstances. These items are often called staples.
Your staples may include things like bread and milk. If you cannot locate coupons for these items, consider buying generic. Generic brands can save you money and are often identical to the name brands. The next step is to see what coupons are available and see if you can build your weekly menu around them. You may want to compare the cost of the item to the cost of a generic equivalent and see what costs less. There are times when coupons aren’t necessarily the least expensive way to go. One way to make your coupons go farther is to shop at a store that offers double or triple coupons.
This means that your coupons can be used for double or even triple their value. Some stores do have limitations such as coupons up to one dollar only. Other stores only offer these coupon multipliers on certain days. Call your local supermarkets and ask them what kind of coupon multiplying deals they have and on what days. Then plan your shopping around these particular days. If you have a lot of coupons, you can really save a lot of money.
There are several places where you can get grocery coupons. They can be found in the Sunday edition of your local newspaper. You can also get coupons online. However, some stores won’t accept coupons that have been printed off a computer because of the possibility of fraud. Some will, so you should try these printable coupons and see if they go through. You can even purchase coupons on eBay. While this is not the most popular method of obtaining coupons this is one way you might want to consider if you’re not finding the specific ones you want in the newspaper.

Anyone looking to save money on their grocery bill should consider using coupons. There are two basic types of coupons — those that you clip and those that you print. Printable grocery coupons can be found on the Internet from a variety of websites. The first step is to locate those sites that actually offer legitimate coupons and not scam offers. One site that is well respected and works with lots of grocery stores is Smart Source. Smart Source is a company that offers coupons which you can print off your printer and use at the grocery store.
Some grocery stores may give you trouble when you present a printed coupon. Because of the possibility of fraud, some stores have limitations and rules when it comes to printed coupons. Valid coupons will have a bar code that can be scanned by the cash register. There will also be a clear expiration date. Basically these coupons will look just like regular coupons except they will be printed on whatever type of paper you use in your printer. For best results use a good quality, heavyweight white paper. You don’t have to use card stock but you also don’t want to use a thin, low-quality paper.
These coupons can really add up when you use them on days where they can be doubled or tripled. Most every grocery store either offers double coupons every day or has certain days of the week when double or triple coupons can be used. To find out which days you can do this and up to what value call the grocery stores in your area. Sometimes supermarkets will only multiply coupons that are under a certain face value. This can still add up even if the cut off point is as low as fifty cents.
Some people will tell you that it is hard to find printable grocery coupons for things they really need. This may be the case, but with a little planning you can make the most of the coupons accessible to you. You may want to buy a coupon organizer to help keep your coupons in order. Stock up on your grocery staples when they go on sale, or buy generic. Then, plan your weekly meals around the best coupons available. You will be surprised at how good you can get at this with a little practice. All in all, coupons are definitely worth the hassle of printing them because they can really help you save.
